Amy has been working on her Girl Scout Bronze Award since October. She and her friend, Camryn, decided to have a bookdrive for one of our local shelters. The organization told them they could really use some children's books, so the girls put out flyers at school and in our neighborhood. They also got on the school newscast to announce what they were doing. They ended up collecting 620 books and 45 activity books. Next month, they will be raising funds to purchase new books for the shelter. Barnes and Noble has offered to do a bookfair for the girls on a Saturday. They will be reading to children at storytime and offering free gift wrapping (for tips) for 4 hours. All proceeds will go toward the shelter's wishlist (Girl Scouts can't raise money for another non-profit organization, just collect items) They are very excited about working at BN.
